THE GROWING ATTRACTION OF THE ANCIENT ALMA
MATER STUDIORUM: BOLOGNA UNIVERSITY OPENS ITS
DOORS TO CHINA
The number of foreign students studying at Bologna University today has
reached almost 5,000, drawn from over 120 countries. If we add to these the
students from the Erasmus programme and those who attend the summer
school, the total rises to nearly 7,300. This places the world’s oldest university
in a leading position in this respect, both in Italy and in Europe. The number
of students from China has increased notably, in the last four years rising from
30 to 500, thanks largely to the new China College and its intensive programme
of collaboration and project-sharing with universities and research centres in the
Chinese homeland
