The Royal College of
Spain
The city which produced the world’s first university also boasts the Royal
College of Spain, the oldest and most prestigious Iberian institution on foreign
soil, founded in 1367 by command of the celebrated cardinal, Gil de Albornoz.
To this day, top Spanish graduates come to Bologna to study for a second
research doctorate at the Alma Mater Studiorum and every year the institute’s
elite crop of ex-collegiates, known as Boloños, gather in Madrid for a
celebratory reunion
